Blog Tour: In Search of Us by Ava Dellairia + Book Look

I’m so excited to be part of the blog tour for Ava Dellairia’s sophomore novel, In Search of Us (and on it’s book birthday no less!).  I’ve been eagerly awaiting her next book after loving Love Letters to the Dead and I’m thrilled that its release day is finally upon us!  I’ll never forget the magic of discovering Ava’s first book before I even knew that the wonderful online book community existed.  I had been using Goodreads for a while but I only had a couple of friends on there and I never used the social part- it was just a way to track my own reading throughout the year.  Having marked The Perks of Being a Wallflower as one of my all-time favorite stories, I received a goodreads email from Stephen Chbosky recommending Ava’s debut novel.  I thought “wow! If Stephen Chbosky is recommending this, there is no freaking way I’m missing out!” I ordered Love Letters to the Dead immediately, devoured it within a couple of days, spent several rides on the 1 train hysterically crying and hoping my current boyfriend (now husband) wouldn’t think I was insane, and have been waiting ever since for more of Ava’s beautiful writing.

Synopsis  The author of the beloved Love Letters to the Dead returns with a parallel story of a mother and daughter each at age seventeen. Marilyn’s tale recounts the summer she fell in love and set out on her own path. Angie’s story is about her search for her unknown father.

This sweeping multi-generational love story introduces readers to mother-and-daughter pair Marilyn and Angie. To seventeen-year-old Angie, who is mixed-race, Marilyn is her hardworking, devoted white single mother. But Marilyn was once young, too. When Marilyn was seventeen, she fell in love with Angie’s father, James, who was African-American. But Angie’s never met him, and Marilyn has always told her he died before she was born. When Angie discovers evidence of an uncle she’s never met she starts to wonder: What if her dad is still alive, too? So she sets off on a journey to find him, hitching a ride to LA from her home in New Mexico with her ex-boyfriend, Sam. Along the way, she uncovers some hard truths about herself, her mother, and what truly happened to her father.

Book Look

For my stop on the In Search of Us blog tour, I decided to create a Book Look based on the gorgeous cover! Now that Spring is on the way, I’ve been craving airy dresses in fun patterns and the blue and white color combo of the cover lends perfectly to the warmer weather our characters experience in New Mexico and LA.

  2. I needs that blue checked dress!! I am so wary about this book because I did not like LOVE LETTERS TO THE DEAD. So weird because me and you usually like the same books!!! I actually think I’ll like this one because the reasons for not liking the first book may not be relevant for this book. The characters are 17 for one not 14. Anyway, great ModCloth picks!! Love it!

I am obsessed with the blue boots in this post! But also, I’m mostly just obsessed with this aesthetic in general ;) Blue is, after all, my favorite.
