All the Christmas Desserts

I thought it only made sense to round up all of the holiday ice cream I’ve consumed this season since I enjoyed writing my Christmas tree post so much.  It seemed like every other day some ice cream establishment was debuting some new special and you can bet that I tried as many as I possibly could! I think my favorites of the bunch were the Earl Grey soft serve with the mini gingerbread house from Bar Pa Tea, the Christmas tree cake from Flour Shop and everything from Milk and Cream Cereal Bar always!

The Stackery – The Stackery had a spot inside The Lodge in the Bryant Park Holiday Shops this year which made it convenient to stop there with Andrew after getting our annual Christmas meal and gluhwein at Rolf’s.  While this may look like ice cream, it isn’t. It’s a chimney cake (or trdelnik as my friends call it) with a cheesecake filling.  Because the one I wanted was s’mores flavored, they made a variation for me without the marshmallow that looked similar which I was really thankful for!
L Room Cafe – This was a new to me spot that hadn’t even been on my radar until Monica asked if I wanted to check it out. The interior is so cute and I definitely want to go back soon! After our delicious pastries, we walked around the Union Square holiday shops.
Van Leeuwen – I’ve always wanted to try Van Leeuwen ice cream and when I realized there is a shop on the Upper West Side, I decided to sneak it into some weekend plans Andrew and I had after seeing the Harry Potter exhibit at the New York Historical Society.  I got peppermint stick ice cream with hot fudge and pecans and it was the perfect choice. I really want to get around to trying their pumpkin cheesecake ice cream next year!
Taiyaki – I kicked off the holiday ice cream season at Taiyaki with Melissa the week after Thanksgiving.  I was really hoping they would have their Christmas cones but alas, they didn’t release them until 12/19 which I felt was rather late in the season to do so.  So I opted for the unicorn style which is a favorite of mine.
Milk & Cream Cereal Bar – As soon as Alexa, Rachel and I saw the new Milk & Cream Cereal Bar Hot Chocolate special, we immediately planned a day to go there.  Shortly after, they also debuted new brownie hot fudge sundaes and as you can see, our table is basically covered in dessert because we all opted for both options!
Ample Hills – Emily and I ventured to the new Ample Hills location in Chelsea, mainly because I really wanted to try their new and exclusive flavor Chelsea Morning which is a golden vanilla ice cream with mixed rainbow cookies. RAINBOW COOKIES. I also got a scoop of PB wins the Cup which is a forever favorite of mine. I’ll definitely be going back for more!

Dominique Ansel – This was a non-ice cream trip with Alexa and Rachel but wow does Dominique Ansel excel at pastry making. I am obsessed with how perfect this gingerbread pinecone and blizzard the bear pastries are. Surprisingly, I think my favorite was the black and blue pavlova which was not holiday themed but I’ve never seen a pastry so very pretty! I felt like I was in Paris<3

Matcha N More – I had been wanting to try Matcha N More for a while and when they introduced their Christmas ice cream, it was easy to convince Alexa and Rachel to go with me even though they had just been there recently! Sadly, they were out of almost every flavor of soft serve so we all ended up with the Christmas tree style cones, but I can’t complain because the matcha soft serve is delicious! I also really love the interior design of the store.  The matcha lattes with the snowmen marshmallows were adorable as well- I got my marshmallow on the side so I could still drink mine.

Flour Shop – Cassie and I had been planning on stopping in to Flour Shop to see their colorful trees (which you can see in my Christmas tree post) and we were going to just grab some cake truffles to go since we also had plans to get ice cream cakes at Stax… then we saw this amazing Christmas tree cake and that’s how we ended up sharing two cakes within the span of a few hours.  We also ran into Santa while we were there and it made our time something we will never forget.

Stax – And this is the second cake Cassie and I shared.  I was really excited to be able to eat this one because it was made with S’mores ice cream, but Stax doesn’t use marshmallow in it! It was only chocolate ice cream with graham cracker dust and it was heavenly!  The ears of this cake did not taste the best but the ice cream was perfect.

Stuffed – Just before the holiday weekend, Alexa, Lili and I had planned to go to Stuffed and get their Christmas tree / snowman special.  Sadly, Lili had to cancel, but Alexa and I decided to still go and I’m so glad that we did! I always enjoy Stuffed ice cream- I can’t go there without getting their Cookie Monster flavor even though it turns my entire mouth blue every time I eat it.  This time around I also discovered a new favorite flavor- Pistachio Almond Cookie and I’ll definitely be getting that one again soon!

City Bakery – It wouldn’t be the holiday season without a cup of City Bakery hot chocolate<3 This is one my favorite traditions and it’s a cup not to be missed! It’s the thickest, most delicious hot chocolate in New York City and I look forward to it every year! Andrew and I split a cup because it’s that rich and we still couldn’t finish it! A bonus is that it’s located right across the street from Books of Wonder.

Bar Pa Tea –  This is another establishment that announced a holiday special late in the season but when I heard that it involved Earl Grey tea soft serve and a mini gingerbread house, I knew I was making time in my schedule to get down to SoHo!  Andrew and I trekked downtown after seeing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (it was my second time and his first!) and I was shocked at how crowded it was! Usually Andrew and I share but he found out there were stroopwafels, he was excited to order his own (he also opted for the black tea soft serve).

  1. Oh my gosh the Earl grey ice cream sounds so perfect. All of those places look so amazing. Our nearest ice cream parlor is about 45 minutes away for me which now makes me really, really sad. I will have to tell my husband we need to move to a town with more ice cream! Ha ha! Happy New Year ♥

It was incredible! Definitely one of my favorites of the season. I used to have the same issue but now that I’ve moved I’ve definitely been indulging in A LOT of ice cream and making up for past time lol!
