Things That Made Me Smile: February Editon

I’ve decided to start a new series of posts (yes, a consistent once-a-month-post here, hooray!) outlining the things that made me smile throughout the month. I’m going to try to stick to five each post, but no promises- I can’t help my big ‘ole heart!

1) The Container Store – I spent the beginning of February getting rid of all of my shoe boxes in favor of clear plastic ones from The Container Store and let me tell you, I am an enthusiastic convert. I love being able to see what shoes I own and what my options are.  With the dark and different sized boxes, I often ended up purchasing pairs of shoes that were too similar in style to something I already owned simply because there was no easy way to see what I had.  I also pared down my shoe collection and turned it into a google doc for myself so anytime I want to purchase a new pair of shoes, I reference it to see if I already own something close and if there’s anything I would part with to make space for the new pair.  I also ordered some of the deep sweater boxes which I’m in the love with, as well as two jumbo containers to house all of my purses.  I’ve found that I’ve been switching up what I wear more often as a result and getting a better feel of what’s useful in my collection and what isn’t.

2) Star Wars – Duh, Star Wars is always an obsession of mine, but as I mentioned on instagram, I’ve been going on a deep dive into the extended universe and it’s pretty much consumed my every waking thought (I kid you not).  Andrew and I are just about done with the third season of Star Wars Rebels (only one season left and I am so sad to part with these characters), I’ve been listening to and catching up on Lattes with Leia every morning while I make breakfast (and I just subscribed to The Dorky Diva for my next podcast), before making breakfast, I’ve been watching Star Wars Explained videos on YouTube, and I read Dark Disciple by Christie Golden and Bloodline by Claudia Gray.  Plus, my March TBR is full of Star Wars books as well!

3) Galentine’s Day // Valentine’s Day – AlexaRachel and I planned a full day of NYC activities to celebrate Galentine’s Day together and I wrote a whole post about it here.  I love any excuse to see friends and eat good food<3 Andrew and I also celebrated Valentine’s Day together at home. He bought a mini Milk Bar cake home and we watched a cheesy romantic comedy on Netflix called The Set Up (which neither of us loved tbh).  We also went on our very belated Christmas date to Momofuku and had the most delicious caramelized shiitake bao buns and garlic veggie ramen and it was a delight.

4) Maggie Stiefvater at Books of Wonder – I can’t believe that I finally had the opportunity to meet Maggie. I’ve been obsessed with The Raven Cycle and The Scorpio Races since I read them for the first time and I’ve never made it to an NYC Maggie event because I had been commuting and worried about getting home too late.  I did meet her at BookExpo in Chicago a few years ago where she signed my copy of The Raven King, but I never got to listen to her talk and then get photos with her and chat so personally which is a huge deal to me.  She was signing anything purchased in store and two books from home, so I dragged Andrew along with me so I could get all of my books signed!

5) Frozen on Broadway – My goal in 2019 is to see a total of 8 Broadway shows… it’s only February and I’m already halfway there with two more shows planned in the next month!  While I didn’t love Frozen on Broadway overall, it was still a fun experience and I love getting to see our friend Kelly who planned the whole night!  The actress playing Elsa did a wonderful job and I liked how they adapted Anna and made her quirkier for the show.  I was also glad that they added in more original music as I had heard there was only one new song in the show but that was so not the case.  The strangest scene by far is the random implied nudity scene with Oaken and his family.

It sounds like you had a wonderful month, I really need to organise my stuff I’ve been putting off buying new storage until I move into my new house but that’s still quite a long while away so I’m in a dilemma of buying it now and moving with it or just waiting so I have less stuff to move across country with haha xoxo

  4. I am loving those container store containers!! I’ve been wanting to do an overhaul of my closet because I feel like I own so many clothes that I don’t actually WEAR (I just grab for the same yoga pants and sweaters every day this time of year!) So jealous you got to meet Maggie- I don’t think she’s done an event out here recently, but I would love to have the chance to meet her!

  5. I love reading/seeing pictures of your NYC adventures!! Your Galentines date looked so fun. And I agree, meeting Maggie at a local event was a lot better than at a con. I’ve met her at both and the local one was the place I really got to see her personality and chat a little to her without being shooed away after 2 seconds.
