Behind the Scenes of My New Blog Photo

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Andrew and I got up early on Friday morning and headed out to take a new photo for my blog sidebar.  Before going, I put so much thought into what I wanted to wear and where I wanted to shoot.  Since we’ve moved, we’ve only specifically gone out one other time to shoot photos when I was working on a holiday instagram campaign with ModCloth (truly a dream come true).  That time, it was pretty easy to get ready since they provided me with an outfit!  Lately, I’ve been doing so much self reflection and I’ve been extremely analytical about social media and my relationship with it.  This made it pretty challenging to settle upon the specifics.  One the one hand, I totally advocate for dressing up for special occasions and wearing something that you wouldn’t normally gravitate toward on a normal day.  On the other hand, since we were shooting a photo for my blog, a platform that is 100% authentically me, I wanted to make sure I chose an outfit that I feel comfortable and confident in and is something I would wear on any given day while slightly dressing it up.

I decided to compromise by pairing a favorite fox sweater and black a-line skirt with my Chanel bag.  My sweater and skirt are two pieces in my wardrobe that get ample use but my purse is a piece that I’ve kept tucked away for years.  It’s my favorite handbag I own for so many reasons, but I never use it because it feels too special to tote around day to day.  I first fell in love with the style back when Laguna Beach and The Hills were first premiering on MTV and I knew I had to have one.  During college, I worked at Bloomingdales on 59th and Lexington in NYC, the worst job I’ve ever had in my entire life, but my one shining beacon of light from that whole experience was purchasing my Chanel bag with my employee discount.  At the time, I knew it was an outrageous, once in a lifetime kind of purchase, and I figured that there wouldn’t ever be another time in my life when I had such limited responsibility and financial freedom.  As an adult, I’m so glad I made that choice back in my college years.  I could never justify dropping so much money on a bag today (it’s gone up significantly in price since I bought mine).  I’m glad I finally got to use it for one of the most special somethings I’ve done this year! Oh hey, on another note, I just realized that both my sweater and my skirt are items of clothing I bought secondhand on Poshmark which I feel pretty good about (the sweater is by Wildfox and the skirt is by Madewell).

When I had initially scouted out a location, I decided upon Grand Army Plaza on Fifth Avenue.  I wanted to get the gold statue and the Plaza hotel in my background.  Upon arriving, we snapped a couple of photos and while I was happy with how they were coming out, it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned.  I wanted to get an upper body shot, framed closer up than my background was allowing.  Since Central Park is right nearby, Andrew suggested heading into the park and the more I thought about it, the more perfect it seemed.  One of my favorite parts of living in NYC, is going for walks in Central Park with Andrew.  We’ve spent so much of our time there in the past year so it felt fitting to shift our photoshoot to a place that means so much to me.  Upon entering, we were greeted with the most beautiful fall foliage and since Autumn is my favorite season, I felt even more excited about our new location.  I am not at all a go with the flow kind of person.  I am a strict planner who needs to mentally prepare for any adjustments to my schedule, but being so open to moving when things weren’t going exactly the way I had hoped was such a blessing.  Let me know what you think of my new photo! And thanks to Andrew for editing!
