Flights of Fantasy: Introduction

Alexa from Alexa Loves Books and Rachel from Hello Chelly created Flights of Fantasy and they’ve invited me to join them in reviving and hosting this year long challenge for 2020! In the past, Alexa and Rachel have hosted FoF as more a community wide event, but this year, it’s more aligned with all of our goals to keep things casual.  Anyone is welcome to join, but it’s going to be more about personal progress and satisfaction.  The purpose of Flights of Fantasy is to celebrate our love of the genre by committing to reading a certain number of fantasy books throughout 2020. My personal goal is to read 20 fantasy books.  A lot of the fantasy that I have on my TBR are series starters, so there’s a good chance I may end up reading more than I planned for! In addition to the yearly goal, each of us are assigned a season where we’ll choose a group buddy read.  We’re kicking the year off with Beautiful Creatures by Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia (which is also a pick for our Paranormal Book Club!).  The next goal is to finish at least one fantasy series.  The one series I am without a doubt going to finish is the Shadow of the Fox series by Julie Kagawa.  The third and final book, Night of the Dragon, releases this March and I am counting down the days!  And our final goal is to read a backlist fantasy book so we can make sure that we’re not only focusing on new releases.  This is a good nudge for me to finally read Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier.  I’ve created a Flights of Fantasy page on my side bar (you can get to it at any time by clicking the Flights of Fantasy graphic) where I’ll be tracking my progress throughout the year.  And don’t forget to visit Alexa and Rachel’s sites to see how their doing with the challenge as well!

Special thanks to Rachel for creating these beautiful graphics for us! Each mermaid tail is in one of our favorite colors (Rachel- Purple, Alexa- Blue, Kristin- Pink)! How cute and clever is that?!
