2020 Goals + Focus

It seems fitting that I’m not getting around to posting my 2020 goals and resolutions until January 11th because my main focus for the year is to take things slower.  I don’t even feel like 2020 started until January 4th since it was the first full weekend to workweek and my head space just wasn’t there yet on January 1st.  As a New Yorker, it almost goes against my nature to take things slower but I’ve found that I’m enjoying it so far.  I’ve always been in the mindset of completing as much as I can, as quickly as I can and as a result, I’ve been missing some of “the journey.”  I’ve been applying this shift across the board from leaving ten minutes earlier in the morning so I’m not sprinting to work, to reading slower so I can digest and dissect what I’m consuming, to turning off all notifications on my phone outside of texts so I’m not tempted to waste time mindlessly scrolling.  A couple of new fun rituals I’ve added to my routine are:

1) Giving myself a full manicure every Friday morning before work (I’m talking filing, buffing, base coats and top coats) instead of rushing to paint my nails 5 minutes before I leave for my plans on Saturday (this is inspired by my mom who always gave herself a manicure on Friday nights while we caught up on Jeopardy).

2) Listening to my favorite podcast (Bad on Paper- I don’t know what I’m going to do when I run out of episodes!) each morning while I eat breakfast and do my makeup.

3) Showering at night and taking the time to brush my hair as soon as I get out of the shower, let it air dry for about an hour and then blow dry it before I go to sleep

4) Picking out my outfit and handbag the night before if I have plans the following day.

5) Not allowing myself to start a new book until I’ve written a goodreads review for the book I’ve just finished.

I feel really good about my 2020 goals.  I always break up my goals into categories and this is the first time in five years where I have absolutely zero social media goals.  I’m excited to share my reading and New York life on YouTube and Instagram but I’m not thinking at all about how to to actively grow my platforms or overcommitting myself to readathons and buddy reads. My new replacement category is events and it highlights all of the things I want to get out and see or do in the coming year!

Good luck with our goals, actually one of my goals this year is to just go get a manicure because I never make time to do my nails anymore and it would be nice to just go out and treat myself for once and have them all pretty haha! xoxo

Great goals! I always try to do my own nails weekly as well. It’s such a nice way to just relax and unwind for a little bit. Hope you have a great year!

  5. I love these straightforward goals!! I tend to over-commit at the beginning of the year because I’m a sucker for sign-ups, challenges, TBR creation..etc. haha

  6. I love how organized your goals are

  7. I am SO excited for your Gossip Girl photoshoot! Also, I hadn’t heard of the Bad on Paper podcast, I’m going to have to check it out! Wonderful that you are giving yourself the space to slow down this year- it can be so hard to give yourself permission to do that, but I think the start of a new decade is the perfect time to reevaluate how we’re treating ourselves!
